Inspiring Your Career in the Trades

There are over 100 trades to choose from in BC and the demand for workers is increasing. The Homebuilders Initiative is a showcase of many of those trades and it was inspired by you – the next generation of tradespeople who will help design, build and complete communities and homes across this province.

From carpenters to bricklayers, flooring installers and painters, it takes dozens of trades to build a new home from the ground up. Our mission is to inspire you to consider a career in the trades in BC and for this resource to be a toolkit providing salary potential, training requirements and a window into the opportunities that come from mastering a trade.

Real Experience. real impact.

Work experience programs create powerful connections between the classroom and the construction site—benefiting both students and home building companies. For students, it’s a chance to explore rewarding careers in residential construction, gain valuable hands-on experience, and build confidence in a real-world setting. For employers, it’s an opportunity to mentor future talent, strengthen workforce pipelines, and showcase the dynamic, team-driven nature of the industry.

To help make these connections easier, we’ve developed two practical guides:

Employer Guide: How to Host a Student – Step-by-step advice for builders, trades, and other industry professionals interested in offering meaningful work experience opportunities

School Guide: Helping Students Explore the Trades – Tips and tools for educators and career coordinators to connect students with safe, supportive job placements in the home building sector.

Together, these guides are designed to make it easy to get started—and to open doors for the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

Bookmark our Work Experience page and come back often—we’ve made it easy to get involved when the time is right
