Hi! I’m a Gas Fitter
As a gas fitter, I’m called upon to install, inspect and repair gas lines and equipment such as gas meters, heating units and appliances in and around the home.
Here are some of the skills you need:
- Read and understand blueprints and documents
- Problem solving
- Good with numbers
Gas fitters take what’s in the blueprint plans and make them reality. With some mechanical skills and the ability to read and understand detailed instructions, as well as health and safety regulations, this is what creating something with bare (or gloved) hands is all about.

What are the training or certification requirements?
Grade 10 or equivalent is required to work as a gas fitter in B.C. Completion of secondary school is preferred. Gas fitters must be certified to work in B.C. and can become certified after completing a two-year apprenticeship.
What’s the earning potential?
The mid-range average salary is $60,320 and the high range is $89,440.
